My 540i will not pass ~4500 RPM and the speedometer is off. Inside the instrument cluster the engine temp and RPM works while the fuel gauge, speedometer, and MPG meter do not. Engine speed won't exceed just about 4500 rpm in regular driving, seems as if it is being rev limited. My research says that it can be a Speedometer Impulse Sensor for the differential however I cannot find the part for this car (it seems as thought it does not exist). Some forums are saying it can be the wheel speed sensor in the LR wheel but those correspond with ABS/brake issues. Another post claims a harmonic balanced fixed is RPM issue, however their problem did not mimic the speedometer issue as well.
Any insight on this problem?
